June 27
Yorkshire Amateur Championship at Pannal Golf Club
Nigel Sweet of The Moortown Golf Club is crowned Champion with a 4 and 3 win over David Appleyard.
Nigel went into lunch 1up after a round that started with both players having a birdie on the second hole, Nigel winning the third with a birdie but losing the fourth to an eagle and the sixth to a birdie. After seven holes the game was level and only three holes then changed hands to leave Nigel with a slender lead at lunch.
David levelled the game at the first hole in the afternoon but lost holes 5 and 10 to pars and 11 and 14 to birdies to give Nigel a four hole advantage with four holes to play. At the par three 15 Nigel missed the green left but chipped close enough to hole out and become the 2009 Yorkshire Amateur Champion.

June 15
Seniors' Championship at Harrogate Golf Club.
The first days play of the Championship had to be cancelled at 3pm when lightning had caused the play to be suspended earlier. The Championship will be decided over 18 holes on Tuesday 16 June. The start times for Tuesday will be as shown on the programme for the second days play of the Championship.

May 9
Yorkshire v Durham at Heworth Golf Club, Gateshead, Durham
The Heworth Golf Club is a park land golf course with excellent greens just off the A194 in County Durham.
The morning was bright but very windy and was to prove a test throughout the day. The morning Foursomes were level at three points each at lunch. The black rain clouds rolled in after lunch and the players were faced with driving rain as well as strong gusting winds. As the rain passed the momentum swung towards Yorkshire and five of the first six games were won, James Maw clinched another point with a 7 & 6 win but the remaining matches were all close, eventually David Appleyard sealed the victory on the seventeenth to win the match by ten points to eight.

April 4
Yorkshires first two games of the season against Derbyshire and Lincolnshire resulted in wins for Yorkshire.
The game against Derbyshire was played in difficult conditions at Horsley Lodge Golf Club and after the morning Foursomes Yorkshire were behind 3.5 to 2.5, but were convincing winners in the singles to win the match 10.5 to 7.5.
The game at Selby Golf Club against Lincolnshire was played in fine but windy conditions.The morning Foursomes were halved 3 points each but again ran out convincing winners in the singles by nine points to three.

26 January
Change of venue
The 6th Division Championship venue has been changed from Otley to Abbeydale on Wednesday 6th May as the course might not be fit to play competitive golf after reconditioning work.

12 December
The Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs is to launch a COUNTY CARD SCHEME in April 2009.
All affiliated clubs in the Yorkshire Union will be circulated and asked to register their interest in the scheme.
Members of a registered club, male and female, will be able to purchase a card for £10 per annum which will enable the card holder to enjoy golf at other registered clubs at a set reduced green fee rate. The rate and times of playing for visitors will be set by each club.

Player Handicaps
In 2010 it is intended to introduce active/inactive handicaps. Players not returning three qualifying cards (no returns will not count) will have an "i" after their handicap. The computer programmes used for handicapping will be modified in 2009 ready for the introduction in 2010. Further details can be found on the EGU web site, www.englishgolfunion.org.

2009 CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Union have decided to allow the use of Range Finders in their Championship events. The Range Finder must only measure distance, a player found using equipment that gives additional information e.g. slope or wind speed, will be disqualified.
